⚠️Important Safety Notice – Viral Online Trend

We are aware of a concerning online trend involving children and young people heating (e.g. microwaving) squishy silicone toys.

When heated, these toys can become extremely dangerous. Although they may feel cool on the outside, the inside can reach very high temperatures. If squeezed, the toy can burst and spray hot material, causing serious burns to the hands, face and eyes.

There have been recent cases of significant injuries to children in both the UK and internationally, linked to this activity.

This trend is being promoted through social media as a harmless ‘life hack’, and young people may encounter it even if they have not actively searched for it.

What parents/carers should do
  • Please do not allow young people to heat or microwave these toys.
  • Take a moment to talk with your child about the risks and reinforce that online content does not always show the real consequences.
  • Supervision is important, as most reported incidents have occurred when children were unsupervised.
